A prestigious 90-year history in Kansas City homebuilding is the proud claim of Sturgeon and Taylor. Now in it's 4th generation, Sturgeon and Taylor has been actively building and developing since Charles Sturgeon started the company in 1912. Great Grandson Brad Taylor is the current president.

In the early days, Charles Sturgeon built homes in the Country Club district of Kansas City, Missouri. In the 40's his grandson Ralph Taylor joined the company, then left to fight in World War II achieving the rank of Naval Lt. Commander. Ralph Taylor's postwar return to Johnson County coincided with the huge boom in suburban development. The company officially became Sturgeon and Taylor in 1946. At that time they were developing an area near 69th and Nall in Mission Township, soon to be Prairie Village, which became Nall Avenue Gardens. The original model home at 6909 Nall Avenue was the corporate office until 2001.

Ralph Taylor went on to develop over 3000 residential lots in 18 subdivisions. His son Brad Taylor came into the family business in 1972 and began building at 151st and Lindenwood in Arrowhead, a 477 home subdivision in southeast Olathe. At that time there was very little Olathe development east of I-35. Three more Olathe developments followed.

Both Taylors have been active in the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City. Ralph served as president in 1951 and 1952. Brad was HBA president in 1994. He was also president of the HBA of Kansas in 1978, and a member of the Olathe Planning Commission for 10 years.

In an effort to separate the land development from the homebuilding Sturgeon and Taylor established Stone Castle Homes as a building company in 1993. Ten years later Stone Castle Homes is merging back into Sturgeon and Taylor and will continue building with the orginal company name. Currently Sturgeon and Taylor is building in Blackthorne Estates and Brookhighlands in Overland Park, and White Horse in Leawood.

Prices of the homes under construction range from $300,000's to mid $400,000's. Sturgeon and Taylor specializes in custom building, each home is a personal endeavor and each buyer is a welcome partner in the building process.
